6 Best Vegan Cheese For Melting You Need In Your Life

One thing I miss most since I turned vegan is a cheese that melts well. I love vegan cheeses, and honestly, I do not know that I could live without my plant-based cheese alternative, however, what if I was a cheese toastie? Or maybe a grilled sandwich with cheese?

Most vegan cheeses just do not live up to the standards that dairy cheese does, and while they’re great in a sandwich, when you need a cheese that melts well, vegan cheeses just seem to disappoint.

Do you relate?

Best Vegan Cheese For Melting

Well, no more! It turns out that there are vegan cheeses that melt, we have all just been totally oblivious to them!

It is so hard to find a vegan cheese that lives up to the abilities that dairy cheeses do. I want that gooey, succulent goodness on top of my pizza or drowning my macaroni!

It’s easy to get vegan cheese, but getting a vegan cheese that melts like real cheese and tastes delicious? That is a challenge.

Today I am going to walk you through the cheeses I have found to melt in your mouth and take away that one cheesy nostalgia we all have, and provide us with just what we have been craving all this time!

Is There A Vegan Cheese That Melts Well?

There are some vegan cheeses that melt well, one of my personal favorites is the Vegan Applewood Smoked Cheese. Applewood is a good cheese anyway, but one that melts is dreamy.

Aside from this, there are plenty of others too! So, stick around and find out!

6 Best Vegan Cheese For Melting

Best Vegan Cheese For Melting

There are my 6 favorite vegan kinds of cheese that are legendary for melting!

  1. Applewood Vegan Smoked Cheese.
  2. Violife Epic Mature Cheddar Cheese.
  3. Follow Your Heart Smoked Gouda.
  4. Daiya Mozzarella Style Stretches.
  5. Violife Just like Mature Cheddar Slices.
  6. Sheese Cheddar Style With Jalapeno & Chilli Vegan Cheese.

These are the top 6, and I’m sure there are more you can find too!

My Top Favorite Vegan Cheese For Melting

My number one is the Applewood Vegan Smoked Cheese. I love Applewood anyway, and always have, so this is a bias of mine.

In my opinion, this is the perfect cheese for mac & cheese and toasted sandwiches. It does not work so great on a pizza unless you want that smokey undertone of course.

It is free of soya and gluten as well, so it is a really good choice.

Best Vegan Cheese For Grilled Cheese

Personally, I am going to have to say that the Applewood Vegan Smoked is the best for grilled cheese. The smokey taste of the cheese just adds to the overall flavor when you have the grilled cheese, which deep down, is what we all want from a grilled cheese anyway.

Best Vegan Cheese For Mac And Cheese

You might disagree with me here but I have to vote for the Violife Epic Mature Cheddar Cheese for mac and cheese. It is one of the best-tasting vegan cheeses in the world, and melts with such a deep flavor it compliments the whole snack dish like a king of dairy… without even needing any dairy!

You can slice or grate this cheese onto your mac and cheese, and you create the world’s most delicious version of mac and cheese. I did it and I wouldn’t look back. Its epic mature taste is divine!

Excuse me, this has made me hungry, I will be right back. I need to go and make myself a dish of this…

Best Melting Vegan Cheese For Pizza

Okay, moving on… I think you know what I will suggest for a pizza!

Do you miss the stringy, oozy, bubbling stretch you get from mozzarella on a deep-dish Italian pizza? God, I do! Well, try out Daiya’s Deliciously Dairy-Free Mozzarella Style Shreds. These are free from soy, tree nuts, gluten, and peanuts, so are super allergen safe as well as vegan.

This is the absolute best choice for any vegan pizza. Without a doubt!

Best Melting Vegan Cheeses For Certain Dishes

Let’s just take a moment to think about which cheeses work best on different dishes. Many dishes require specifics from their cheese. Think about spaghetti bolognese right? Most people like to sprinkle some parmesan cheese on there… which cheese should we be sprinkling?

I’ve tried and tested all of these methods and I can confirm that all my following suggestions are 100% delicious!

  • Applewood Vegan Smoked Cheese – Best for grilled cheese, or melting on nachos
  • Violife Epic Mature Cheddar Cheese – Best for mac & cheese
  • Follow Your Heart Smoked Gouda – Best for fondue or cheese soups.
  • Daiya Mozzarella Style Stretches – Best for Pizza.
  • Violife Just like Mature Cheddar Slices – Best for burger toppings & vegan lasagne topping.
  • Sheese Cheddar Style With Jalapeno & Chilli Vegan Cheese – Best for burger toppings or spicy grilled cheese. (You could even use this cheese if you wanted your mac & cheese to have a bite of it!)
  • Violife Just Like Parmesan – Best for sprinkling on Spaghetti dishes, used in cheese bakes, or putting on a salad!

So many dishes require melted cheese, but luckily there are plenty of vegan cheeses that do melt. There are many mozzarella alternatives that melt on pizza well, but when you need a different type of cheese substitute, I would recommend Violife, as their variety is much more vast… and delicious!

How Long Does It Take For Plant-Based Cheese To melt?

If you use vegan cheese that is known to melt, then it will typically take 3-4 more minutes to melt than dairy cheese. In order to get a good and proper melt out of vegan cheeses sometimes you need to add some vegan mayonnaise, some fresh lemon juice, virgin olive oil, and salt.

Mix these together and then apply the cheese to the dish.

This ensures a good melt.

Typically doing this means that the vegan cheese will melt in the amount of time a normal cheese would take to melt.
