A Super Easy Vegan Watermelon Steak Tartare everyone should try, especially if you used to like the meat version before going vegan.
It’s ready in less than 10 minutes, making it the perfect appetizer for a dinner party. You will surely yay your guests.
For those who have followed me, or know me a little, you will know that I have a cheffing/cooking background. I was a classically trained chef.
So I worked with a lot of French classics, one of which was steak tartare.
I never thought of re-creating it as a vegan version, since I never liked steak in the first place, or steak tartare in particular.
However, I recently had a weird dream of making a steak tartare, so here we are!
I decided to give it a go, and it came out fantastically well!
How To Make Vegan Steak Tartare:
Only a handful of ingredients needs to make this vegan version of steak tartare
1.Dice the watermelon into tiny cubes.
2.Same for the gherkin and shallot.
3.Chop the capers.
4.Gently mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl. Using a round cookie cutter, place it in a middle of a plate. Fill it almost to the top, then smooth the top. Gently take off the round cutter, this will give you a uniform round shape.
5.Serve and enjoy!
This vegan watermelon ‘steak’ tartar recipe will impress friends and family. A little bit of heat is the perfect complement to the sweet watermelon.
How Do You Eat Vegan Steak Tartare?
Classically, it’s eaten on toasted bread or crackers, normally as an appetizer.
So, so for vegans would be pretty similar. I like to eat it with crackers.

- 2 cups/300g of watermelon
- 1 small gherkin
- 1 tsp of capers
- 1/4 Shallot
- 1/4 tsp of mustard
- 1/4 tsp of worcestershire sauce
- 2-3 drops of tobasco sauce
- touch of salt and pepper
- To serve:
- Toasted Bread
- Or Crackers
- Dice the watermelon into tiny cubes.
