Is La Roche Posay Cruelty Free: 2023 Answers

La Roche Posay is one of the many skincare brands out there that is backed by science and is vastly popular. However, like many things out there relative to cosmetics, there will always be questions around whether or not it is actually okay for vegans.

Not only do we wonder if it is vegan, but also if it is cruelty-free.

So, is La Roche Posay a brand that the ethical and the vegan can use, or is it just another letdown for the cruelty-free community?

Is La Roche Posay Cruelty Free: 2022 Answers

Is La Roche Posay Cruelty-Free 2022?

Well, I am sorry to tell you that La Roche Posay is not cruelty-free, no matter how much it might seem to be.

They may themselves, test on animals, or otherwise through suppliers or third parties. Of course, we have to consider places in which products have to be tested on animals by law-such as in China.

La Roche Posay is owned by L’Oréal, so we have to consider L’Oréal’s standards first and foremost, as well as La Roche Posay’s actual ingredient list and testing codes.

Is La Roche Posay Animal Cruelty Free?

Is La Roche Posay Animal Cruelty Free?

I am going to go ahead and say no here. Why? Well, their finished products are tested on animals as required by law. They also use third-party animal testing and their products are sold where animal testing is a legal requirement.

Also, since La Roche Posay is owned by L’Oréal, I have to say no again. L’Oréal is known for animal testing and is not a vegan or a cruelty-free company.

Is La Roche Posay Cruelty Free And Vegan?

They do not actually test on animals themselves, but they do pay others to test their products on animals where it is legally required. This typically means that any company that says they test on animals ‘were legally required’ that they are testing to sell their products in China

This means that La Roche Posay is not only testing on animals, but their parent company is as well.
So, La Riche Posay isn’t vegan nor cruelty-free.

Is La Roche Posay Vegan?

A brand has to be noted as cruelty-free and not engaging in harm to animals to be vegan. La Roche Posay is therefore not vegan.

In addition to this, a lot of their moisturizers and creams also include animal-based ingredients.

So, La Roche Posay is pretty much as far from being vegan as they can get.

Is La Roche Posay Manufactured In China?

La Roche Posay doesn’t make their products in China, as the name suggests, they actually make their products in France. However, they do sell to mainland China, which means they test on animals and are therefore not cruelty-free.

L’Oréal and its subsidiaries have never been cruelty-free, and it would seem this is not changing in 2022.

Cruelty-Free Alternatives To La Roche Posay

There are 5 main alternative options you can have for La Roche Posay.

First, there is OSEA which is 100% vegan and cruelty-free, obviously the best choice.

Then there is Andalou Naturals, which is mostly vegan, but you should check first when you pick up any of their products.

Then there is Paula’s Choice, COOLA, and Juice Beauty which have some vegan options.

FAQs:

Now you know that La Roche Posay is not cruelty-free or vegan, but what else is there to know?

Does La Roche Posay Contain Palm Oil?

La Roche Posay does use palm oil in its products. They claim that it is sustainably acquired, but we wouldn’t be so sure about that. They claim their palm oil comes from small, independent farmers. However, they state this is only how they source 40% of the palm oil.

It doesn’t leave much room for hope.

Is La Roche Posay Gluten Free?

La Roche Posay does have gluten in its products, not all of them, but it is present in a lot of their products. So, La Roche Posay is not gluten-free either.

Is La Roche Posay Paraben Free?

La Roche Posay also uses parabens. In fact, as per their site they only have 3 products that do not use parabens, or at least only 3 they openly mention as being paraben free.

For this reason, I can also say that La Roche Posay is not paraben free.

Summary:

Unfortunately, this French beauty brand isn’t near to being cruelty-free, let alone vegan. The good news is though, that there are many vegan alternatives to La Roche Posay.
