OGX is a popular beauty brand, particularly in shampoos. I am not gonna lie, I am someone who used to use this brand quite a lot. But down the line, when you go vegan, you start to ask yourself questions like “is tree hut shea cruelty free” “Is Lancome vegan” and other questions like that.
So, an investigation was called upon, and that’s exactly what I did, so let’s get to it.
Is OGX Vegan And Cruelty Free
No, OGX isn’t vegan nor is cruelty-free.
Just like many other big beauty brands, they may directly or indirectly test on animals. They sell their products in China, and for those who don’t know, up until recently, China had a law that every single thing should be tested on animals before it passed to human consumption.
This law changed recently, but it’s typically cheaper and easier to do it by testing on animals rather than going through a different route that avoids this.
So, unfortunately, to this day, still many big companies and brands just sell their products knowing they are very likely to get tested on animals.
It’s not just China though, other countries also have tests on animals first, then pass to humans kind of policy too.
It’s also worth noting that OGX has a parent company, which is Johnson & Johnson. Johnson & Johnson is not a cruelty-free brand.
Is OGX Coconut Oil Vegan?
By technicality, OGX coconut oil isn’t vegan, or cruelty-free. Why? The biggest reason is that OGX is sold in China, which means the likelihood of it being tested on animals (as per their law that was recently changed) is very high.
We all know that coconut oil is vegan, but unfortunately, OGX coconut oil isn’t, because of the cruelty involved in the product.

OGX conditioner isn’t cruelty free, mainly because the whole brand isn’t cruelty-free. OGX is owned by a parent company that is not cruelty-free as well.

It’s a massive shame, that there are many big beauty brands out there, that aren’t cruelty-free, for example, La Roche Posay is not cruelty-free, and Lancome isn’t cruelty-free either.
