Palm oil seems to be in everything, but in peanut butter, it is specifically chosen by the creators as it has a very neutral flavor.
It is basically just a cheap way to prevent natural oil separation and works as a filler to boost the margins.
Is Peanut Butter Better With Or Without Palm Oil?
Palm oil actually contributes to what makes up saturated fats. So, peanut butter that has palm oil is actually healthier than hydrogenated oils.
These partially hydrogenated oils will have trans fats in them, and this actually raises your cholesterol more than saturated fat does.

This includes species like the orangutan, Sumatran Rhino, and the Pygmy Elephant, all driven out of their homes and dwindling in numbers thanks to that palm oil giant. Surely, these animals need their homes more than we need palm oil!
Why Is Palm Oil So Unhealthy?
However, palm oil is not just destroying homes and killing forests, it is also very unhealthy!
Palm oil, palm kernel oil, and also coconut oil have all got a bad reputation. This is because they are all very high in saturated fats, which are closely linked to heart disease.
These fats will raise your bad LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and both of these are risk factors for cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease, which is actually one of the primary killers of today!
Which Type Of Peanut Butter Is The Healthiest?
A trick to finding a peanut butter that is actually healthy is to try and find one with as few ingredients as possible. Generally, it should only have one ingredient… Peanuts.
A majority will have salt, sugar, and palm or vegetable oils. So, realistically you want peanut butter with as few ingredients as possible.

Does JIF Peanut Butter Contain Palm Oil?
JIF Peanut Butter does contain palm oil. While this peanut butter is pretty minimalistic with only 5 ingredients one of these is palm oil. They do claim to be trying to contribute to sustainable palm oil production, but that doesn’t magically make it better.
Is There Peanut Butter Without Palm Oil In ALDI?
The peanut butter in ALDI (Aldi’s own) does not contain palm oil, but it does contain hydrogenated vegetable oil, which is even higher in fat and bad for your health.
At least they don’t use palm oil I guess… Just don’t eat too much of it!
Does Skippy Peanut Butter Have Palm Oil?
Skippy Peanut Butter is another peanut butter with minimal ingredients. However, yet again palm oil is on their list of ingredients.
Their peanut butter is made only with peanuts, salt, and palm oil.
If you love peanut butter as much as I do, you probably use peanut butter regularly in your recipes. If you are on a journey to completely eliminate the consumption of palm oil, there are certainly great peanut butter brands out there that make epic peanut butter with NO palm oil!
