Sadly, one of the things that seem to be riddled with palm oil is Peanut butter.

Want to know a few brands of peanut butter that do not contain palm oil? You’re in the right place!

As you can see, most of these brands make peanut butter which only has one ingredient… Peanuts, as it should be.

There are even more brands out there, but these are without a doubt, the best of the bunch.

Why Is There Palm Oil In Peanut Butter?

Palm oil seems to be in everything, but in peanut butter, it is specifically chosen by the creators as it has a very neutral flavor.

It is basically just a cheap way to prevent natural oil separation and works as a filler to boost the margins.

Is Peanut Butter Better With Or Without Palm Oil?

Palm oil actually contributes to what makes up saturated fats. So, peanut butter that has palm oil is actually healthier than hydrogenated oils.

These partially hydrogenated oils will have trans fats in them, and this actually raises your cholesterol more than saturated fat does.

Ideally, you would want peanut butter without either of these!

Is Palm Oil In All Peanut Butter?

The peanut butter will usually have either palm oil or partially hydrogenated fats/ vegetable oils in it in order for it to maintain its mixed state, instead of the consumer needing to mix it themselves.

This does not mean it is in all peanut butter, but it is in most peanut butter.

Why Is Palm Oil So Harmful?

Palm oil has been and still is one of the biggest drivers of deforestation in our world, including in some of our most biodiverse habitats and forests.

It has already destroyed the habitat of many endangered species and is actually a major part of the reason that these animals are endangered now.

This includes species like the orangutan, Sumatran Rhino, and the Pygmy Elephant, all driven out of their homes and dwindling in numbers thanks to that palm oil giant. Surely, these animals need their homes more than we need palm oil!

Why Is Palm Oil So Unhealthy?

However, palm oil is not just destroying homes and killing forests, it is also very unhealthy!

Palm oil, palm kernel oil, and also coconut oil have all got a bad reputation. This is because they are all very high in saturated fats, which are closely linked to heart disease.

These fats will raise your bad LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and both of these are risk factors for cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease, which is actually one of the primary killers of today!

A trick to finding a peanut butter that is actually healthy is to try and find one with as few ingredients as possible. Generally, it should only have one ingredient… Peanuts.

A majority will have salt, sugar, and palm or vegetable oils. So, realistically you want peanut butter with as few ingredients as possible.

The best shot you have here is to try something like ‘Crazy Richards 100% Peanuts All Natural Peanut Butter. There are two types of peanut butter here, crunchy and creamy, and both only contain peanuts.

It is very hard to find, but peanut butter just made from peanuts is going to be the best option for your health.
