Is There Non-Dairy Whipped Cream?
Yes! There will be three primary types of dairy-free whipped creams in any of your grocery stores. These will usually be soy-based, almond-based, or coconut-based. Choose whichever takes your fancy. I personally prefer almond and coconut, but whatever suits you…
This is good news though, as it means that we do not have to be creamless on our cakes and desserts, we can still enjoy a decadent dessert as we wish.

What Is Non-Dairy Whipping Cream Made Of?
You might be wondering just how whipped cream can be made without dairy. Believe it or not, it is actually quite easy, in fact. It is made of only vegetable fat, sweeteners, emulsifiers, water, and stabilizers.
It is made through air bubbles which are scattered in a serum phase to make up a foam. However, this does make a lot of non-dairy whipping creams non-vegan. Milk protein is not dairy free.
This means that vegan non-dairy whipping cream will instead use proteins from soy, coconut, or almonds. Hence why so many vegan non-dairy whipped creams will be made from almond, oats, soy, or coconut
Do They Make Almond Milk Whipped Cream?
There are many companies that make whipped cream with almond milk. One of our aforementioned whipping cream brands makes this.
Reddi -whip Non-dairy made with Almond milk is an ideal whipped cream topping for vegans. It is made with almond milk, contains no dairy product, and most certainly no milk proteins either. It is a perfect choice.
However, you can buy a whipping cream that comes from soy or coconut if perhaps almond milk whipped cream is not quite your thing.
Can You Whip Almond Milk?
Okay, but… what if you wanted to whip your own almond milk and create your own masterpiece of whipped cream?
Well, you can do that as well, in fact, I highly recommend you do!
You can even whip up almond milk for coffee, which is the best thing to do if you would prefer a creamy coffee instead of a milky one!
When you whip almond milk you get a thick and delicious non-dairy topping which is just as decadent and tasty (if not more so) than any dairy option.
If you want to create the perfect creamy topper for a coffee, I definitely recommend an ingredients list that includes some vanilla extract, sweetener, and xanthan gum. However, if you want to make it differently, that is your call.
You can whip almond milk into a whipping cream, or a whipped creamy coffee topping that will absolutely melt your heart.
Non Dairy Whipped Cream Recipe
If you want to go the extra mile and just make your own dairy-free whipped cream, then here’s an easy recipe for you!
Non Dairy Whipped Cream Recipe
- 2 cans of full-fat coconut milk 14-ounce cans
- 1/3 cup/70g of white sugar
- It's important that the cream of the coconut is set, so place the cans of coconut milk in the fridge for about 8 hours, ideally overnight.
- Using a stand mixer, add ONLY the cream of the coconut milk cans, this will typically be right at the top once you open the cans.
- Discard/keep the liquid for other recipes. Whip the coconut cream for about 1 minute.
- Slowly dd the sugar to the stand mixer as well while it's going. Mix for about another minute, until it's nicely incorporated.
- And that's all done!

Whipped cream at Starbucks in the US has always been made using dairy. However, in 2021 they tested out the use of vegan whipped cream in two of their Seattle area locations. This cream is made from lentils.

Which is the best depends on your own personal opinion, however, I would have to say that either Silk dairy-free heavy whipping cream or SoDelicious coconut whipping cream is the best. These two are massive dairy-free favorites.
However, Truwhip plant-based whipped topping and smackin’ good are both very popular as well.
Non Dairy Whipped Cream In Trader Joe’s
Trader Joe’s does a sweet rose coconut whipped topping which is dairy-free and soy-free, and like much traditional whipping cream, it comes available in a refrigerated spray can.
