In this article, we will explain Why Takeaway Food Is Unhealthy.
We have all been there; It’s been a long day, you just want to sit on the sofa and just get some greasy comfort food. A takeaway comes to the rescue!
And it’s also made so easy for us to get it! It’s literally done with a couple of swipes on your phone. It’s difficult to resist the temptation! A delicious hot meal delivered straight to your door.
Here comes the ‘but’ though. Let’s have a look at a couple of examples and some ugly truths about the takeaway food…
1. Buying Takeaway Food Hits The Bank Big Time
Unfortunately, you end up having to spend a lot of money for the convenience of getting the food delivered to your door, and it has to be warm, of course!
You end up paying a lot of money, for just a portion. Had you spend this money on the actual products of the dish yourself, you would probably be able to feed about 3-4 people.
Curries are a good example, you pay triple the price for some rice and some sauce.
If you spend this money on this one curry, to just buy rice, you would end up buying a couple of kilograms of rice and have rice for months.
What I am trying to say, is that every takeaway food is extremely overpriced for what it is, and for what you actually get.
2. The Hygiene In Many Kitchens Is Horrific!
No joke, if you ever find out and see for yourself how bad the hygiene is in so many kitchens you would be disgusted; from rats and cockroaches to the wrong way of storing food e.g raw meat stored together with fresh vegetables or ready to eat food.
There are many takeaway kitchens with no hygiene stars at all! Like none! But they still run, and sell food to people, for an absurd price.
3. Takeaway Food Is Really Unhealthy
In order to make normally cheap ingredients taste good, they end up adding all sorts of crap in the food.
From excessive amounts of salt, fat, sugar, and all sorts of highly processed sauces and ingredients.
The takeaway food is just really high on sodium, saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol, it isn’t something you should eat often.
Eating too much over a long period of time can lead to issues such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and unwanted weight gain.
Processed takeaway foods commonly contain artificial additives, colorings, flavorings, preservatives and sweeteners that possess no nutritional value to the body. These chemical additives place an extra burden on our already overworked livers. Certain health problems have been associated with particular additives and preservatives, including allergies, asthma, hay fever, hives, worsening eczema, headaches, and hyperactivity.
4. Your Tastebuds Will Change To Eating Unhealthy Food
So, it’s not just eating a takeaway in the evening anymore, this will cause you problems during the day as well. Because eating highly processed food will make you want to eat these foods more. It’s addictive. So you will end up eating unhealthy during the day too because your tastebuds can only enjoy high sodium food and fatty processed food. You change your tastebuds.
It ends up becoming a serious problem, to unwanted weight-gain and health-related issues.
Of course, obviously, if it’s not a regular thing, it shouldn’t be a problem, but if you are someone who relies on takeaways more than once a week then it can become a problem.
5. Have a Food Allergy? You are in trouble!
The cross-contamination is surreal. Unless you buy from places that have more hygiene stars and have a good reputation, you will always struggle with your food having ingredients that you are intolerant to. But again, choosing a place with a good reputation will cost you even more!
Are you vegan? How many times have they put meat in your vegan pizza or dairy cheese? What if you are lactose intolerant…this could seriously affect your health. When you buy a meal from a takeaway restaurant, you really don’t know what’s in it.
6. The Takeaway Food May Be Out Of Date, Or Unsafe To Eat
Food out of date? just chuck it in the frier, they will never know! Something is a bit smelly? No problem, from all the grease and artificial flavoring they will never be able to smell it or taste it.
Basically, the quality is very poor, and it can make you ill. You really don’t know for how long your food has been left out before it gets to your plate. It might have been out of date, and unsafe to eat, and yet, you are eating it without realizing it. The standards in some kitchens are so low, no wonder why they have few or none hygiene stars.
The Bottom Line
And this is Why Takeaway Food Is Unhealthy! But I am not trying to make you completely stop buying takeaway food, it’s perfectly fine to do it every once and a while, but please don’t do it on a regular basis! Your health, your waist, and your bank will thank you!
