So, out of the many vegan plant-based sausages out there, is there a winner? Does one really take the cake?
What Is Plant-Based Sausage Made Of?
To begin, let me tell you how these are made.
It turns out you have many options because not all vegan sausages are made equal.
Most will be made from either pea protein or soy protein. They will also usually be made with coconut, sunflower, or canola oils.
There will be a few other ingredients in there, but these are the main ones found in a majority of products.

The healthiest substitute for meats is natural, minimally processed, and high in protein foods such as mushrooms, nuts, beans, lentils, beans, tempeh, jackfruit, and seeds.
Tofu is also great as are quinoa, pumpkin seeds, soy, and so on.
Really it depends on what you seek out, but you want to get a substitute that is high in protein and iron.
Is Plant-Based Sausage Healthy?
A plant-based sausage can be healthy, however, the ones which are sold in superstores are just as likely to be jam-packed with salt, just like their meat counterparts.
This is why even plant-based sausages struggle to be on the ‘healthy’ list of foods to eat.
Do note, however, that plant-based sausages will have significantly less fat which makes them a healthier option to eat than meat-based sausages, they are just high in salts.
Is Plant-Based Meat Healthy?
Any plant-based meats will have different nutrients than their meat product alternatives, but this does make them healthy. They can be lower in fats, and sometimes lower in salt. That being said, plant-based meats are not much better.
They are very highly processed foods that have undergone a lot of processing and will contain a lot of additives including calories, salt, sugar, oil, and so on.
When it comes to a healthy diet, you usually want to avoid these. However, they may be slightly better for you than processed animal meats.
Who Makes The Best Plant-Based Sausage?
Out of the many producers of plant-based sausages, I would have to say that Field Roast makes the best. They have a wide variety of sausages, but their Mexican chipotle is definitely the best.
Their sausages are extremely appetizing, and your meat-eating buddies are likely to join you in having them once they get a whiff.
What Vegan Sausage Is Healthiest?
The overall healthiest vegan sausage is probably ‘Very Good Butchers’ ; their British Bangers are very healthy. A single link will contain 27 g of protein, and only 4.5 g of fat, this makes them one of the healthiest options you could hope for in a vegan sausage.
What Is The Healthiest Meat Substitute?
I can’t lie, out of the many different options there are, tofu is quite high up there, Tofu has always had a big standing. For a start tofu is healthy, it is gluten-free too. It has quite a few bonus minerals and nutrients which are good for you as well.
It is also suitable for those with a kidney stone history, a history of poor thyroid function, or even women who have estrogen sensitivity.
However, if you do not like tofu, try tempeh, it’s the cousin of tofu.
The only downside of these two is that they do not contain a great deal of vitamin B12.
Is Plant-Based Meat Good For Weight Loss?
It can be, as it contains high amount of protein, and protein can be quite filling, which may result in you consuming fewer calories during the day.
A plant-based diet can be very good for weight loss. One of the main reasons is that the fiber you get in your diet comes mainly from the fiber found in plants, and high-fiber foods are filling but also low in calories.
Also, you miss out on a lot of very fatty foods that are often found in meat and other animal products.

There are 65 chemicals which are usually lurking in plant-based meats. These are as follows:
- Erythrosine: Red 3 artificial food coloring.
- Ferric Orthophosphate:Iron phosphate which is used in the fortification of foods. It is safe in small amounts.
- Tertiary Butylhydroquinone: Prevents discoloration in processed foods. TBHQ has links with cancer but is often only used in foods in a small amount.
- Magnesium Carbonate: It is used in foods to retain their color, but it is also used in fire-proofing and flooring!
- Propylene Glycol: Odorless and colorless. Used in e-cigarettes and antifreeze.
